Allene Buttry Penland

January 10, 1924 - February 17, 2021

CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Allene Buttry Penland, 97, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at her home. She was born in St. Paul, Virginia; daughter of the late Con and Lottie Brooks Buttry. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Clyde Penland; two brothers, Jerald Buttry and Bob Buttry; one sister, Lois Keith; one sister-in-law, Mary Mallonee Buttry; two brothers-in-law, Victor Keith and James N. Chaffin; three grandchildren, Barry Johnson, Carla Amburgey, and Chadwick Amburgey. Allene was of the Holiness Faith. She loved to cook and was an avid game player. She is survived by three daughters, Betty Amburgey and husband, Carl Wayne of Castlewood, Virginia, Linda Johnson and husband, Lloyd of Castlewood, Virginia, and Deborah Keith and husband, Ernie of Abingdon, Virginia; one son, Tommy Penland and wife, Debra of Piney Flats, Tennessee; one sister, Dorothy Chaffin of Blountville, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Pauline Buttry of Castlewood, Virginia; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three special friends, Linda Hileman, Joan Kennedy, and Donna Johnson; special family members, Campbell Kiser and wife, Ella. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, Private Graveside Services and Entombment, only for the immediate family, for Allene Buttry Penland will be conducted in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia with Pastor Peggy Porter officiating. The family wishes to thank Dr. Easton and staff, and the staff and workers of Lebanon Home Nursing who took such great care of our mother.
