CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Bascom Slemp, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky; son of the late Homer and Cleo Green Slemp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Slemp; two sisters, Mabel Schmidt and Emogene Rierett; and three brothers, Homer Thomas Slemp, Niles Robert “Tiny” Slemp, and Frank Jack Slemp. Bascom attended St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church and was a member and Past Master of Castlewood Masonic Lodge # 231 A.F. & A.M. He loved to garden, feed his chickens and gather their eggs, and playing with his dog, Lassie. He is survived by three sons, Chad Slemp and wife, Melissa of Castlewood, Virginia, John Slemp of Castlewood, Virginia, and Louis Bryant and wife, Lynette of Bassett, Virginia; four daughters, Tammy Dodrill of Castlewood, Virginia, Vickie Tepericidg of Lumberton, North Carolina, Rebecca Westfall of Cowan, West Virginia, and Tresea Bryant of Cowan, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, Graveside Services for Bascom Slemp will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Arville Dingus officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chuck Foster, Joseph Herrington, Travis Herrington, Dylan Slemp, Cameron Slemp, and Chad Slemp.
