CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Carroll “David” Vicars, 82, passed to his Heavenly home on August 12, 2020, at his home. He was born in Castlewood, Virginia; son of the late Orbin and Nannie Viola Nash Vicars. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-years, Josephine Vicars; his infant son, Michael David Vicars; and two brothers, Buford and Lowell Vicars. He was a proud retired coal miner. “No greater loss can be made bearable but by the knowledge that our precious father and papaw, has finally made it home and the promise that we will see him again.” He is survived by his loving fiancée and companion, Elizabeth Wampler; three daughters, Diane Vicars Ward of Castlewood, Virginia, Debra Minahan and husband, Danny of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Donna Hall and fiancé Gary Ramey of Coeburn, Virginia; six grandchildren, Mary Long and husband, John, Jessica Bailey and husband, Jackie, Ricky David Neece and wife, Charla, Michael Hall and wife, Betty, Sheena Bush, and Lindsey Dickenson; eight great-grandchildren, Emily Neece, Hunter Neece, Mason Long, Benjamin Neece, Bailey Wright, Kailey Wright, William Hall, and Josie Hall; a special family friend, Tina Asbury; one brother, Sidney Vicars; two sisters, Lois Acree and Phyllis Hanna; and several nieces and nephews. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, Funeral Services for Carroll “David” Vicars will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Myers Vicars officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, August 16, 2020, in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Pallbearers will be Ricky David Neece, John Long, Hunter Neece, Mason Long, Benjamin Neece, and Lindsey Dickenson. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home in Castlewood, Virginia following the same restrictions. A radio broadcast of the service will be available on the Castlewood Funeral Home parking lot on radio station 88.9 FM during the service for those who would like to remain in your vehicle.
