CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Come morning, Claire Edith Horne, 83, entered her rest on April 26, 2021, at the home of her son Jeffrey, in Oak Island, North Carolina. Edith worked all her life from her teenage years until she was hired by Clinchfield Coal Company when she graduated from Castlewood High School. From there, she went to work for Senator M.M. Long, then to C R Pate and Company, until she retired. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Horne and wife, Cindi of Oak Island, North Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Patsy Ramsey Horne of Castlewood, Virginia; one grandson, T.J. Horne of Castlewood, Virginia; two granddaughters, Brittany Horne of Oak Island, North Carolina and Sara Horne (David Lawson) of Honaker, Virginia; one great-grandson, Kayden David Lawson; two brothers, Harold Dingus and wife, Lena of West Plains, Missouri, Arville Dingus and wife, Sherrall of Castlewood, Virginia; four sisters, Joyce Wolfe of Kingsport, Tennessee, Shirley Davis of Castlewood, Virginia, Brenda White and husband, Scott of Castlewood, Virginia, and Judy Meade and husband, Jerry of Castlewood, Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews, extending to generations of great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, a Private Funeral Service for Edith’s immediate family will be conducted with nephews, Rev. Greg and Rev. Steve Dingus officiating. Entombment will follow in the Valley View Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. The family is very thankful for the great hospice nurses who assisted in her care and for her faithful friend, Jane Hess.
