LEBANON, VIRGINIA – Eva Nell Hale Phillips, 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at English Meadows in Abingdon, Virginia. She was born in Castlewood, Virginia; daughter of the late Rev. Riley and Phoebe Couch Hale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin C. Phillips; two brothers; and seven sisters Eva was a member of Gravel Lick Old Regular Baptist Church in Castlewood, Virginia. She loved to garden, work in her flowers, and clean. She is survived by one son, Gary Phillips and wife, Joanne of Lebanon, Virginia; one daughter, Connie Shires and husband, Robert of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren, Christina Smith and husband, Richard of Blountville, Tennessee, Mark Phillips and wife, Lori of Lebanon, Virginia, Stephanie Webster and husband, Billy of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Paula Cordle of Richmond, Virginia; nine great-grandchildren, JP Smith and wife, Anna of Kingsport, Tennessee, Hailey Smith of Cookeville, Tennessee, Chloe Phillips of Lebanon, Virginia, Levi Phillips of Lebanon, Virginia, Gideon Phillips of Lebanon, Virginia, Braiden Webster of Raleigh, North Carolina, McKenna Webster of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ashton Cordle of Richmond, Virginia, and Hudson Cordle of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, William E. Hale of Warrenton, Virginia; special friend, Sylvia Bush; and several nieces and nephews. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, Private Services for Eva Nell Hale Phillips will be held at Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, Virginia with Mark Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Billy Webster, Richard Smith, Mark Phillips, JP Smith, Levi Phillips, Gideon Phillips, and Braiden Webster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ashton Cordle and Hudson Cordle. A radio broadcast of the service will be available on the Castlewood Funeral Home parking lot on radio station 88.9 FM during the service for those who would like to remain in their vehicle. The family would like to give special thanks to English Meadows Senior Living Memory Care and Caris Hospice for the special care given to Eva during her illness.
