BIG STONE GAP, VIRGINIA - George Edward "Butch" Wilson, 72, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at his home. He was born in St. Paul, Virginia; son of the late Clyde Robinson and Ruth McMurry and stepfather, Fred McMurry. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Myrtle Edwards; two longtime friends, Roger Dishman and Chad Arnold; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Johnson and Kathy Sullivan; brother-in-law, Timmy Barton; and special mother-in-law, Mary Magdalene Surrett. He lived in Centertown, Kentucky for over 40 years where he made lots of special friends and loved ones and a special little dog that looked over him. He was a retired coal miner of 37 years, a member of the U.M.W.A., and a Veteran of Vietnam. He was of the Christian Faith and member of the Centertown, Kentucky Masonic Lodge #714 F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Wilson; one son, Tim Wilson and wife, Jackie of Pittsboro, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Jake and Taylor Wilson of Pittsboro, North Carolina; three half-sisters, Lisa Burchell and husband, Gene of Kingsport, Tennessee, Donna Kennedy, and Peggy Hamilton; two half brothers, George Robinson and Dale Robinson; two brothers-in-law, Ronnie Barton and wife, Twyla and James Surrett; five special sisters-in-law, Virginia Surrett, Judy Counts, Wanda Matney, Donna Duncan and husband, Bill, and Vivian McConnell; and special niece, Tammy Sullivan and husband, Bill. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia of no more than 50% of capacity gathering and face-covering requirements, Funeral Services for George Edward "Butch" Wilson will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Lee Stidham and Rev. Danny Meade officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2020, in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Military Rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and Virginia National Guard. Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 9:30 am Monday. Pallbearers will be Ben Sullivan, Jared Sullivan, Greg Duncan, James Surrett, Travis Hale, and Junior Barton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Duncan, Ronnie Barton, Jr., Billy Duncan, Teddy Honaker, Miles Dennis, Peyton Dennis, Carter Brown, Grayson Stout, and Bill Sullivan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home in Castlewood, Virginia following the same restrictions. A Radio Broadcast of the Funeral Service will be available on Castlewood Funeral Home parking lot on 88.9 FM while being able to stay in your vehicle.
