CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - Jonathan Mendoza Onate, 2, died Sunday, September 1, 2019 at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Jonathan loved nature and playing with his kittens. He attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lebanon, Virginia. Jonathan always told his mommy and daddy he loved them. He is survived by his mother and father, Maria Guadalupe Onate and Jose Mendoza Hernandez; one sister, Alexa Mendoza of the home; one brother, Jose Guadalupe Mendoza of the home; maternal grandparents, Andrea Torres Onate and Guadalupe Onate of Gray, Tennessee; paternal grandmother, Maria Enedina Hernandez of Mexico; uncles and aunts, Joel Onate and wife, Isabel Reyes, Maria Concepcion Onate and husband, Rosendo Cobian, Maria De Jesus Onate and husband, Alfredo Castro, Maria De La Luz Onate, Adriana Onate and husband, Uriel Figueroa, Gilberto Onate and wife, Blanca Castro, Ernesto Onate and wife, Rosie Onate, Jose De Jesus Onate and wife, Lupita Garcia, Jose Juan Onate and wife, Viviana Castro, Inocen Cio Mendoza, Rosario Mendoza, Ambrocio Mendoza, and Cecilia Mendoza; several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass for Jonathan Mendoza Onate will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Father Michael Cummins officiating. Entombment will follow in Valley View Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Daniel Nelson, Rosendo Cobian, Guadalupe Onate, and Jose De Jesus Onate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 in Castlewood Funeral Home in Castlewood, Virginia.
