Joseph "Junior" Lell

CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Joseph “Junior” Lell, 82, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at his home. He was born in Cleveland, Virginia; son of the late Joseph Scott Rueben and Rachel Delilah Hicks Lell. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Junior attended Crackers Neck Baptist Community Church in Nickelsville, Virginia. He received awards for playing the banjo, and also enjoyed hunting and being a dad and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Louise Vanderpool Lell; three daughters, Terry Chaffin, Bertha Wood and husband, John, and Sherry Ann Lell; two sons, Joseph Lynn Lell, Jr. and wife, Donna and Floyd Scott Lell and wife, Sherry; six grandchildren, Gary Joe Chaffin, Mark Chaffin, Brad Chaffin, Courtney Smith, Madyson Hatfield, and Jasmine Lell; eight great-grandchildren, Luke Wallen, Braylie Chaffin, Savanna Craft, Caylee Chaffin, Travis Wood, Meagan Wood, Ryan Phipps, and Willow Phipps; three great-great-grandchildren, Marshall Scott Smith, Allison Wilkins, and Aiden Wilkins; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the many family and friends especially his lifelong friends, Allen and Jeanette Hicks. Graveside Services and Interment for Joseph “Junior” Lell will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021, in the Rose-Vanderpool Cemetery in Castlewood, Virginia with Pastor Steve Collins officiating. Family and Friends will meet at the cemetery at 2:45 p.m. Saturday. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or online at https://www.stjude.org/donate.
