Click to View Service CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Mary Magdalene Meade, 88, peacefully left this troubled world to gain her Heavenly reward on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at her home with her beloved husband by her side. She was born in Dante, Virginia in 1932; daughter of the late Robert Lee and Rhoda Ellen Kaylor. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Catherine Meade; and three sisters, Edna Mae Hall, Elsie Marie Alexander, and Helen Daphene Salyer. Magdalene loved being outdoors and worked side by side with her husband Nathan on their farm in Russell County. Nathan affectionately nicknamed her “Bean” and always called her that. Magdalene drove a Russell County school bus for 30 years before retiring in her seventies and many people in the area still know her as their bus driver. She also loved children and taught children’s Sunday School for many years at High Point Community Church in Castlewood, which was founded by her father, Robert Kaylor. She attended High Point Community Church up until the time her health began to decline. Magdalene was also an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers and porcelain dolls. She loved to work jigsaw puzzles, playing the piano and sketching. She is survived by her devoted husband of seventy years, Nathan Meade, with whom she shared an undying love; one son, Ronnie Wayne Meade and wife, Gloria of Castlewood, Virginia; one daughter, Jane Chafin of St. Paul, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jonathan Meade, Amelia Johnson, Amy Mullins, and Jennifer Cumbee; nine great-grandchildren, Gabriel Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, Autumn Layton, Andrea Layton, Ashley Layton, Sierra Hayes, Samantha Hayes, and Savanna Hayes; four great-great-grandchildren, Aurora Kiser, Ezekial Kiser, Xavier Kiser, and Landon Lawrence; one brother, Bobby Joe Austin; and several nieces and nephews. Following the COVID-19 restrictions set forth by the Governor of Virginia on face-covering requirements and social distancing, a funeral service for Mary Magdalene Meade will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2020, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Charles Clifton and Rev. Larkin Booth officiating. Committal Service and Interment will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Marcus Johnson, Tony Mullins, Benny Lane, Gerald Grizzle, William Collins, and Eddie Meade. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2020, at Castlewood Funeral Home in Castlewood, Virginia following the same restrictions. A radio broadcast of the service will be available on the Castlewood Funeral Home parking lot on radio station 88.9 FM during the service for those who would like to remain in your vehicle.
