CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Rev. Orbie J. Porter, 90, passed away on May 31, 2022, at his home. He was born in Castlewood, Virginia; son of the late John S. and Sallie Marshall Porter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Bradley Porter; one son, Leon Porter; three sisters, Dorothy Fugate, Lucille Salyers, and Lois Johnson; and two brothers, John S. Porter, Jr. and Roy Lee Porter. Rev. Porter worked many years as a coal miner where he retired and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He was the Pastor of Molls Creek Church, High Point Community Church, and Bakers Ridge Community Church in Castlewood, Virginia. He ministered for over fifty-six years and taught many people about the Lord. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening, where he spent many days perfecting his garden. He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Bassett and husband, Marc of Castlewood, Virginia and Kathy Nunley and husband, Jack of Abingdon, Virginia; one sister, Joan Harrison and husband, Roy of Lebanon, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Farrell Johnson of Kingsport, Tennessee; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Rev. Orbie J. Porter will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Jason Nunley officiating. Committal Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022, in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:30 a.m., Thursday. Pallbearers will be Issiac Shortridge, Joseph Johnson, Jimmy Hobbs, Eric Hurd, Jonathan Nunley, and Zachary Nunley. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia.
