CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Robert Paul “Buck” Powers, 73, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022, at his home. He was born in Clinchfield, Virginia; son of the late Tony and Marie Rasnake Powers. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Powers Johnson; an infant brother, John Harvey Powers; his mother-in-law, Maggie Duncan; two sisters-in-law, Peg Puckett and Vonda Stevens; and a brother-in-law, Charles “Dick” Proxmire. Buck loved his family and friends and was much loved by them. He was a hard-working man who loved the outdoors, his bear dogs, and his coon dogs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting deer, bears, raccoons, and turkeys. He also loved raising not one, but two gardens each year. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Duncan Powers; his daughter, Melissa Woody of Bristol, Virginia; his son, Brian Powers and wife, Mary of Castlewood, Virginia; one grandson, Nathan Johnson and wife, Valerie of Castlewood, Virginia; two granddaughters, Madison Woody of Bristol, Virginia, and Laken Gibson of Castlewood, Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Addie Brooke Johnson, Madilynn Riggs, Jada King, and Dylan King; two sisters, Kay Whitaker and husband, Wayne of Castlewood, Virginia, and Eudine “Ellie” Proxmire of Lebanon, Virginia; two brothers, Vernon Powers and wife, Joyce, and David Powers and wife, Elizabeth; one uncle, Harold Rasnake and wife, Susie; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins. Funeral Services for Robert Paul “Buck” Powers will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Pastor Travis Price officiating. Interment will follow in Rasnake-Vance Cemetery, Sink Hole Lane, Cleveland, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Tony Powers, Chad Bickley, Robbie Whitaker, Mark Powers, Wayne Duncan, Matthew Duncan, Bill Bickley, and Shannon Dishman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Denny Long, Scotty Long, Stan Mashburn, Rick Cox, Brian Musick, Jamie Turner, Matt Powers, Rick Powers, and Jeremiah Rich. Due to COVID-19, the family requests those attending the Visitation and Services to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia.
