Roger Lee Dotson

November 28, 1950 - June 16, 2022

CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Roger Lee Dotson, 71, entered into rest on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Dickenson County, Virginia. He was a retired coal miner with Clinchfield Coal Company for thirty-two years and was employed by Alpha Natural Resources until retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gene and Georgia Austin; and two brothers-in-law, Teddy Austin and James Austin. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Connie Dotson; three daughters, Angela Dotson of Clintwood, Virginia, Jill Penland of Chilhowie, Virginia; and Melissa Hicks of Castlewood, Virginia; two sons, David Dotson of Kingsport, Tennessee and Chad Hicks and wife, Missy of Castlewood, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Kristan Penland and Jason, Kesha Crabtree, Dalton Cromer and wife, Courtney, Devan Crabtree and wife, Haylee, Matthew Hicks and wife, Meghan, Haley Griffith and husband, Carlton, Katie Duncan and husband, Greg, and Kierra Hicks; eight great-grandchildren, Cylas, Brielle, Clayton, Jesse, Ember, Kason, Amira, and Gracelynn; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Roger Lee Dotson will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Ernie Addington officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Dalton Cromer, Matt Hicks, Jason Widener, Carlton Griffith, Greg Duncan, Devan Crabtree, and Joshua Austin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Philip Jacobs, Ron Hileman, Zach Bush, Harold Johnson, Tom Mullins, and Carter Brown. Due to COVID-19, the family requests those attending the Visitation and Services to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia, or anytime at the home. The family would like to give special thanks to Roger’s nurse, Summer, ICU 1 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee for her care and compassion for the family.
